Could two serves of fruit and vegetables be easier than you think?
The idea of overhauling your diet can be intimidating and navigating fad diets and trendy foods is tiresome and confusing. UQ Healthy Living dietetics service gives you evidence based nutritional advice that is practical and easy to apply to real life. We can show you simple, budget friendly meal ideas to help you feed your goals.
Portion control and balance: Food can still be fun
Perhaps you’re adjusting from cooking large quantities for your family, to cooking for two, or one. Perhaps you haven’t cooked much at all before. You may be noticing changes in your metabolism or appetite, or finding it tricky to adjust to food restrictions because of heart disease or diabetes. Whatever your circumstances, portion control and balance are key to ensuring eating isn’t something to be feared, dreaded or confused by. Let’s explore ways to bring the joy back to your plate.
A balanced diet is one that allows you to eat some of your favourite treats, sometimes. Find out how accumulative, consistent changes, like substituting healthier alternatives into your favourite dishes, or moderating serving sizes, can really make the difference and manage cravings. Navigating the supermarket
Learn how to decipher the nutrition information on labelling; and how to spot genuinely healthy choices over slick marketing. We can help you better understand what those mysterious numbers in the ingredients are, what a serving size looks like in some of your favourite products, and check quantities of energy or kilojoules, protein, fat, sodium, sugar, dietary fibre and carbohydrates, and consider them in comparison to the recommended daily intake.
Individual Dietetics Consult: What to expect
Expect encouragement, understanding and respect in all interactions with our dietetics service. Your victories are our victories when it comes to improving your health through better nutritional choices.
On your first visit, we will:
- Discuss the reason for your visit and work with you to plan goals and strategies for improving your health
- Take measurements (including height, weight and waist circumference)
- Ask questions about your medical, social and diet history
- Recommend any follow-up appointments
Upon booking you can decide if you would like to have an individual consult with a student dietitian, under the supervision of a qualified clinician at competitive rates; or consult solely with an experienced clinician. Both options offer excellent value.
