Healthy Mind, Healthy Body

As an interdisciplinary clinic, UQ Healthy Living can help to improve not only your physical health, but also your mental health and well-being. The mind-body connection can help you to build resilience and age well. Our psychology service can work with your team of allied health clinicians, taking a holistic approach to provide you with individualised care.

In addition to providing support for common mental health challenges like anxiety and depression, UQ Healthy Living’s psychology team can also assist with improving adherence to lifestyle changes. For example, how sleep and exercise can impact attention, memory, physical health, and mental wellbeing. Our clinicians can also assist in developing individualised strategies to improve daily function.

Our psychology service is free of charge and no referral is required.

What to expect in session?

UQHL Psychology services are over seen by an experienced Senior Clinical Psychologist with a specialisation in psychological wellbeing in later life. Your care team will also consist of provisional psychologists (i.e. students with a minimum of four years undergraduate training in psychology, who are undertaking further specialist training).

Psychology consultations are client-centred, meaning we customise a treatment plan to your needs collaboratively. As such, sessions may vary but the following is provided as a guide to what can be expected:

  • First one to two sessions: An intake interview allows the provisional psychologist to learn more about you and commence the development of a treatment plan. This plan is approved by a Senior Clinical Psychologist.
  • Second or third session onwards: Depending on identified needs and priorities, sessions may include psychoeducation, psychological assessments, counselling, strategies and skills targeting the identified problem. Your care continues to be overseen by a Senior Clinical Psychologist.

In each session you will be treated with respect, care, empathy, and unconditional positive regard.
